It’s no secret that Roman Abramovich is to Chelsea what a spoiled 14 years old is to FIFA Ultimate team. Armed with a bottomless bank account and zero patience, he can crack the calmest gaffer and make superstars go supernova. Yet these things have little effect on the opinion of the supporters. Instead of chanting about their club’s toxic ownership or the behavior of their players that rivals that same 14 year old on FIFA, they chase away another manager. Not just any manager, but the only manager that can manipulate the fragile mind of Fernando Torres. Now as Rafa exits, he leaves Chelsea in the top 4, in the hunt for the FA cup, and third in goal differential. Not too bad for an “interim” manager.
Once again Abramovich threw another well-qualified manager into the shadow place among the hyenas that are the British media. The next question is who will be replacing Rafa? Better yet, who would want be in a place with that owner, those “supporters,” and that team?
Many journalists point to Jose Mourinho to take over in the summer. It’s a logical suggestion. He is the only one to have sustained success at the Chelsea. He is also the only manager to last more than one year under the current ownership, three to be exact. In that time he won 7 trophies. Then he left on his own terms. He was done with everything. Especially the ridiculous demands, like making Shevchenko the full time number 9 striker over a young and confidant Drogba. I think those memories will be in the forefront of Jose’s mind. His job isn’t done in Madrid though. He has stated that he wants to win Europe with them and won’t quit until it is done; this says it all. He is a great coach second best to Sir Alex Ferguson, in my humble opinion. Anybody that can get Zlatan to talk about non-Zlatans in a way that could make Zlatan cry is one hell of a coach.
Whoever fills the position in the summer we will more than likely be having this conversation next year. However, if “The Special One” returns we may see tenure at Chelsea for the first time since well, the last time. If this is the case then ownership will have to look into occupying Wembley or the Olympic Stadium for the massive influx of former City supporters that remember that their favorite team is actually Chelsea FC.
